Mixing prints

To be quite honest, mixing prints has always been a bit scary for me. Your look can truly go from 0 to 100 in being over the top, and not in a good way. Too many prints in one look can be entirely overwhelming and completely distracting. Wearing prints that don’t work well together can lead to a fashion disaster. However while browsing through Pinterest I came across a few outfits that actually inspired me to play with prints in new and creative ways. After observing and studying the details looks, I realized a pattern that could be helpful to us all; its all about the colors you choose to combine. If the color of the individual prints work well together, then your prints are more likely to look good together.

If you don’t dare to mix a printed top and printed bottom just yet, begin with mixing a printed dress with printed shoes. This will help you get a sense of what prints work well together as well as color schemes. Once you are ready to mix more than one printed clothing items, start with neutral colors as they are a lot easier to combine. Colors within the same family will look great together as well as smaller and larger prints. Once you build up the confidence to do that, get creative and play around with brighter and bolder colors. I absolutely love the forth look shown below where a cheetah top was combine with a bright red plaid blazer. These prints managed toward so well together!
